Large 18th Century Blue & White Delft Charger c.1780
A delicately painted, romantic and beautiful large blue and white Delft charger c.1780
The centre of the design illustrates an abundantly filled garden urn within a walled Renaissance formal garden, with lattice work walled bridge. Extravagant flowers bud, proliferate and cascade from the scrolled handle urn on its garden plinth.
In the background we can view birds swirling in blue skies and silhouetted tall trees. The bridge gently hovers above a small undulating stream.
Much is painted in medium blue and outlined in deeper cobalt blue. The deep charger is white tin-glazed earthenware.
