Italian Provincial Cassone c.1550

A wonderfully naive Italian Cassone created around 1550 from Naples.

In original cerulean blue paint over gesso, beautifully faded throughout the centuries.

Worth noting are the classical motif carvings still visible and the double keyholes hinting to this piece being used to house a dowry as a marriage chest, or as a sword chest - hence the need for such security to house and protect the precious items within.
